A Message From Our Directors

Welcome to Capital Health Cancer Center.
If you or a loved one have cancer, it’s important for you to know that you are in exceptional hands. Our team of medical experts are all working toward the same goals: making our patients better, prolonging their survival, and improving their quality of life.
My medical background starts in Italy, where I graduated from medical school and completed a residency in general surgery. I came to the United States to continue training in multi-organ transplant surgery and hepato-bilio-pancreatic surgery at some of the most prestigious medical institutions in the country. I also helped develop innovative and lifesaving surgical techniques, many of which were previously unavailable and considered unimaginable. It is my privilege to offer these services to you.
I joined Capital Health as medical director of the Cancer Center in 2018 with a plan to create the most patient-center cancer treatment facility in the region. Since that time, we have experienced tremendous growth and built a center that is best equipped in the region to treat cancer at any level in and out of the operating room.
With you in mind, I’ve assembled a team of highly trained physicians from leading medical centers all over the United States to bring their expertise to you. This includes specialists in all areas of traditional and minimally invasive surgery, interventional radiology, medical oncology and radiation oncology. Together, we’ve launched centers of excellence that focus on your specific needs and are equipped with the latest tools to treat your condition safely, effectively, and close to home. This combination of the best people and the most advanced technology under one roof at Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell is what elevates our care to the highest level and makes Capital Health Cancer Center the best in our region.
Capital Health Cancer Center is recognized and accredited by many national organizations, supporting our high-quality, evidenced-based care. But the most important part of my job, and the thing I like most about caring for our patients, is giving them back to their loved ones so they can enjoy all the big things and little things that life has to offer. For that reason, I thank you for trusting us with your care.
Sincerely,
Cataldo Doria, MD, PhD, MBA, FACS

Nearly 30 years ago, we began our mission to provide high quality cancer care for our community. Today, at our award-winning, state-of-the-art Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell, our Cancer Center serves Philadelphia, Mercer, Bucks, Hunterdon, and Burlington counties and beyond.
Early detection is key when it comes to cancer and a team of professionals is able to assist you. Our radiologists utilize an extensive array of cutting-edge technologies and are trained in all aspects of diagnostic and interventional radiology. In addition, we offer advanced interventional pulmonary and interventional GI services using innovative procedures to diagnose and treat complex issues. Our pathology team is boarded in anatomic and clinical pathology and have extensive expertise in all cancer sites and personalized medicine options.
After diagnosis, our team of physicians (from related fields such as medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology), nurses, navigators, therapists, social workers, nutritionists, rehabilitation staff, pathologists and clinical researchers meet and create a plan that ensures the best possible care for you. In addition, the team regularly discusses each patient’s treatment and progress. By keeping all team members fully aware of the issues surrounding each patient’s plan of care, we further ensure that you’re getting the best possible care from a collaborative team effort.
In 2017, we had the pleasure of welcoming Cataldo Doria, MD, PhD, MBA, FACS, to Capital Health as the Cancer Center’s first medical director. An internationally known hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgeon, Dr. Doria provides strategic oversight and direction to the cancer program. Since joining, Dr. Doria has developed a robust team of fellowship trained oncologic surgeons that offer highly complex urologic, gynecologic, thoracic, breast, colorectal, HPB, neurosurgical and orthopedic surgical procedures. As an added advantage, many of these surgeons are experienced in minimally invasive, robotic-assisted surgery using the da Vinci® surgical systems, allowing for lower complication rates, faster patient recoveries, with enhanced patient satisfaction.
Our diverse range of advanced radiation therapies include traditional 3-D radiation, intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT). In addition, we offer CyberKnife âRadiosurgery and high dose brachytherapy radiation (HDR), enabling comprehensive treatment for many cancer types. Our Radiation Oncology Department strives to provide quality care and is accredited by the American College of Radiology to ensure that we are meeting their standards.
CHCC has three infusion centers with a total of 35 infusion chairs, which offer chemotherapy, biologics, immunotherapy, and transfusion services. Our inpatient oncology units provide specialty-trained care to you and your loved ones when and if a hospital stay is necessary. Nurses on the inpatient oncology units and outpatient infusion center are certified by the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS), trained in chemotherapy administration, and work closely with the medical oncologists.
I’m very proud of the strong support infrastructure that has been developed over the last few years as multiple clinicians have joined CHCC focused to meet specific needs of our patients. These include nurse navigators dedicated to the areas of breast, gastro-intestinal, gynecologic, neuro, thoracic and urologic cancers; a financial navigator, oncology dietitians, an oncology licensed clinical social worker, a transportation navigator, an oncology nurse educator, genetic counselor and a community outreach specialist. Smoking cessation, support groups, peer to peer mentoring, educational lectures, spa services and wellness classes have been established to assist patients in managing the challenges of living with their disease. Our supportive care/palliative care program offers a full range of inpatient and outpatient services from symptom management to assistance with end-of-life care.
We operate at the highest levels recognized by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC), a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care.
We understand that this can be a very stressful time for you and your family and it is our goal to provide you with the most professional and courteous service possible. If during the course of your care you have any concerns, I encourage you to discuss the matter directly with your doctor, or please bring it to my attention by calling 609-537-7043.
It is our honor to be part of your care team.

Dear Patient,
Nearly 30 years ago, we began our mission to provide comprehensive quality oncology health care services. Today, at our award-winning, state-of-the-art Capital Health Medical Center – Hopewell, our regional oncology center serves Philadelphia, Mercer, Bucks, Hunterdon, and Burlington counties and beyond.
Early detection is key when it comes to cancer. Our experienced radiologists provide state-of-the-art diagnostic services, including state-of-the-art CT scans, full-field digital mammography and molecular breast imaging, MRI, PET/CT scans, nuclear medicine, interventional radiology, ultrasound, and X-rays. We’re also involved in programs that make cancer screenings accessible for all patients.
After diagnosis, our team of physicians (from related fields such as medical oncology, surgical oncology, gynecological oncology, therapeutic endoscopy, gastroenterology, radiation oncology, hematology, neurosurgery, radiology/interventional radiology, plastic and reconstructive surgery and other specialties), nurses, navigators, therapists, social workers, nutritionists, rehabilitation staff, pathologists and clinical researchers create a plan that ensures the best possible care for you. The team regularly discusses each patient’s treatment, progress, and plans for life beyond discharge. By keeping all team members fully aware of the issues surrounding each patient’s plan of care, we further ensure that you’re getting the best possible care from a collaborative team effort.
When it comes to treatment, we provide comprehensive radiation oncology services—including traditional 3-D radiation, IMRT, and brachytherapy seed implantation using the TrueBeamTM Linear Accelerator as well as the non-invasive CyberKnife®Robotic Radiosurgery System—and offer minimally invasive surgery including robotic procedures using the da Vinci® Surgical System.
Our team of CyberKnife-trained radiation oncologists and neurosurgeons provide a level of expertise that is unmatched in our region. For example, Dr. Shirnett Williamson served as an assistant clinical professor of Radiation Oncology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine prior to joining us and Dr. Timothy Chen is a well-known expert in the specialized treatment of gynecological malignancy and lung cancer and serves as president of the Board of Advisory of the American Cancer Society – Eastern Division, where he supervises the Asian Initiatives program. What’s more, our physicians are experienced leaders in their respective fields, capable of providing a wide range of treatment and diagnostic options that fit your lifestyle.
