Bile duct cancer is a rare kind of cancer that develops when abnormal cells form in the bile ducts.

The bile duct is a tube that carries bile from the liver to the small intestine. Bile is a bitter, liquid-y substance that helps the body break down fat in the foods we eat.

What are Signs and Symptoms of Bile Duct Cancer?

Bile duct cancer is one of those cancers that doesn’t usually show signs or symptoms in the early stages. But when they do appear, they include:

  • Yellowing of the skin, or jaundice
  • Stomachache
  • Weight loss
  • Fever
  • Sickness

How is Bile Duct Cancer Treated?

Depending on how many tumors you have and whether your cancer has spread, your doctor may choose from some of the following treatments for you:

  • Surgery
  • Chemotherapy
  • Radiotherapy, or radiation
  • Targeted therapy
  • Immunotherapy
  • Stem Cell or Bone Marrow Transplant
  • Hormone Therapy
